DELTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a shoplifting suspect who fled a discount department store at the Lansing Mall has died after being crushed in a trash compactor where she was hiding.

An Eaton County sheriff's deputy responded Monday following a report that two women sprayed a security guard with mace at TJ Maxx in Delta Township. One was found behind a nearby trash compactor.

The department says the woman wouldn't say where the other woman could be found.

Shortly afterward, authorities got a call about a woman trapped in the trash compactor. The woman was pulled from the machine by rescuers and taken to a hospital, where she later died.

The dead woman was identified as 26-year-old Tyree Monique Tate of Delta Township. The other woman's name wasn't immediately released.

Ok - I don't agree with stealing and I believe in punishment for breaking the law - but to say she got what she deserved??? How can you say that and then claim to be an upstanding citizen? Death for shoplifting is a hefty price and it's disgusting that anyone thinks it's what she deserved. Yes, she was wrong, but that's insane.

I have no sympathy for those who steal clothing in the middle of summer. If it were 20 below outside, and the person was stealing a jacket, empathy could be in order. Goodwill, Salvation Army, and other outlets exist for inexpensive clothing, though. This woman got what she deserved. Hopefully these stories of people dying these disgraceful deaths while breaking the law will serve as a deterrent to potential criminals.

Karma is not pagan. It is a belief of the Hindu and Buddhist religions. So-called Christians need to respect other religions if they want any respect for their own. Karma is another way of saying God's will to repay for good and bad actions. "Vengeance is mine saith the Lord"

some of you people make me sick! How can you talk about God in one breath and then joke about someone's death in another? If there is such a thing as karma then I would be very worried if I were you!

No matter what you want to call it, death would be a terrible price to pay for shoplifting. I do not believe God would give death for that. If God did it, then why hasn't he killed all the murderers, child molestors, wife abusers, and child abusers? Don't blame God for this.
