INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh says it was an honor to be considered as Democrat Barack Obama's choice for a vice presidential running mate.

Many political observers predicted that Bayh would be Obama's choice, but Obama has announced that he picked Delaware Sen. Joe Biden.

Bayh says in a statement that he hopes being considered reflects well on Indiana. He said he's proud to serve in the U.S. Senate and will continue to work hard to make a difference in the lives of people from Indiana.

He also says he enthusiastically supports the selection of Biden, calling him an outstanding public servant with deep experience and a fighting spirit. He says those qualities would make him a great asset in the White House and on the campaign trail this fall.
