CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) — Two Amish men are hospitalized after their bicycles were hit by a car on a country road in eastern Illinois.

Coles County Sheriff Darrell Cox says Vernon H. Miller is in critical condition at Carle Hospital in Urbana. John H. Miller is in serious condition.

Both of the men are from Arthur, about 40 miles southwest of Urbana.

Cox says the Millers and two other men from Arthur, Phillip L. Gingerich and Eldon I. Plank, were riding their bicycles northeast of Charleston on Monday when a car struck them.

Gingerich and Plank were treated for less serious injuries.

Cox says investigators believe the wreck was an accident.

Members of the eastern Illinois Amish often travel by bicycle in the area.
