INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — An Iraq war veteran and his 2-year-old son were killed in a three-vehicle accident.

Police say 22-year-old Shavonte Fields of Indianapolis and his son, Ladariyon, were killed in the crash early Sunday on the city's east side.

Police say Fields was attempting to change lanes when his car collided with another car, sending his car out of control. Both Fields and his son were ejected by the force of the crash.

Fields' stepfather says Field recently returned home after serving 14 months in Iraq as a petroleum specialist with the U.S. Army Reserves. Fields was scheduled to start a new job on Monday.

Police continue to investigate the crash.
