WARREN, Ohio (AP) — A northeast Ohio medical examiner has ruled that a 3-day-old infant's death from a dog attack was an accident.

Trumbull County Coroner Dr. Humphrey Germaniuk (JUR'-mih-nihk) said Wednesday it's now up to police and prosecutors to decide if any charges are filed.

Warren Township police say the baby had been home from the hospital only one day when the family's Siberian husky took the child in its mouth and dragged her from her baby bed. The girl was pronounced dead Monday at Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

Germaniuk says parents should understand that dogs are territorial and act instinctively.

Debbie Agostinelli with the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County says it appears the dog mistook the baby for a toy. She expects the animal will be euthanized.
