DETROIT (AP) — Police say a 4-month-old boy was fatally shot as he slept with his mother in their Detroit apartment.

Deputy Chief Marshall Lyons tells the Detroit Free Press that Walter Bogan III and his 25-year-old mother were alone in the apartment when 10 to 15 shots were fired through the door about 4:30 a.m.

Lyons says at least two armed men reached the second-floor apartment by climbing an outside staircase. He says it appears at least two different caliber guns were fired.

The baby was shot in the head and was taken to Sinai Grace Hospital, where he later died.

Lyons says the shooting may have resulted from an argument between two groups of men who have not been identified.
