12-year-old dies in motorcycle crash

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis police say a 12-year-old boy died in a motorcycle accident when he lost control of the vehicle going over a manhole cover.

Police say Dejuan Johnson was not wearing a helmet when he lost control of the off-road-style motorcycle, which slid about 100 feet into a parked car. Police say the boy was traveling faster than the 30 mph speed limit.

Authorities say the off-road motorcycle had knobby tires, which are not designed for use on paved streets.

Police say the crash occurred about two blocks from the boy's home, and family members were present when the crash occurred.

IM 43 and have been riding bikes since I was 8 years old I would say he was doing quite a bit more then 30 mph speed limit to slide the bike 100 feet I would est. 60 to 70 mph but anyway this is a awfull event for the family.

I am sure they are talking about a dirt bike. Which is where they should be rode, in the dirt. Parents need to enforce the safety of helmets and riding gear. Prayers for family.

It's against the law for for an unlicensed driver to ride on the road. The only exception are certain mopeds, but the minimum age for those are 15, which is just craziness.
