Sorry guys, the article never said the tv was "on" anything. It could have been a floor model that fell over on the chld.

That's awful to hear. The matter here is not who's fault it was, it is the fact that this little girl is dead and that there is nothing anybody can do about it. I am really sorry for the loss of this family

"raised in a cave on Mars: your solution would be to have all household items on the floor?" ---- You see. Millions of people out there probably would never believe that for some folks, not leaving poisonous stuff under the sink where a crawling toddler can get it, is actually a nuance that is too tricky to think about. If you say, "keep dangerous things out of reach of the toddlers" there are people out there who will say, "ok smarty pants, should we put all our stuff on the roof?"

well we have a 2 year old and 1 yr. old and yes when they started walking we took our t.v. down off the stand and kept it unplugged, with outlet protectors in place till we could get a more stable stand for it. baby was probably trying to climb or hang on the t.v. while a show was on that really caught its attention...that poor mom accidents do happen you can not prevent everything. I see some of the best parents have accidents at home even though being careful you see it all in the EMS field

Well, Arrrgh, it may come as a surprise to you that there are people in this world who are not, shall we say, thoughtful. So, they have a baby and don't bother to take things down that might fall, like a tv on a cloth on a table that can be pulled, or scissors on a sink that, while not high up, doesn't really need to be to do real damage should it fall, etc. etc. For some of us, we can think of this stuff in our sleep; but for others, it's hard.

How sad. Kids do dumb things because they don't know any better. They aren't old enough to mentally run down the "what-if" list. That's what parent's are for. Unfortunately, most parent's these days just don't think things through. They never saw that happen so they never think it could. Look around at all the accidents waiting to happen in most homes-wobbly bookshelves, papertowels hung near a stove, loose registers... Kids are "trying" to hurt themselves. Parents need to get in the way.

This happened a couple of years ago to a friend of ours niece people have tv's on stnads not properly secured or they put them on dressers in the bedroom kids open the drawer stand in it to reach the tv and it topples over on them, this how it happend to the friends niece we knew. Make sure they are on good sturdy tv stands maybe screwed to the wall. So sad heartfelt sympathy to the family.
