Hunters warned of meth lab remnants

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Authorities are warning Indiana deer hunters not to touch remnants of methamphetamine labs that they may come across in the woods.

Indiana State Police Trooper Rob Smith say containers used to cook meth may look harmless, but could contain toxic chemicals or explode.

Smith says meth producers have condensed their makeshift laboratories to a "one-pot method" so that meth can be produced in a single container — often a soda bottle or small gas can. The process leaves behind volatile chemicals.

He says the containers are often tossed in wooded areas or on the side of the road.

Smith urges hunters who find what appears to be remnants of a meth lab to call state police.

Indiana's firearm deer season runs Nov. 15-30.
