WARREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a 33-year-old Indianapolis man has died after being shot while hunting in Michigan.

The Midland County sheriff's department says in a statement that Corey A. Welch died Tuesday morning at a Flint hospital after being shot in the back Sunday while in a hunting blind in the county northwest of Saginaw.

Investigators say Welch likely was shot by a 26-year-old woman who was aiming at a deer from another blind. The department says she heard yelling after firing a shot, found Welch and provided aid.

Firearm deer season opened Saturday in Michigan. WSGW-AM reports prosecutors will determine whether criminal charges will be filed.
