PORTAGE, Mich. (AP) — A 5-year-old southwestern Michigan girl has been hospitalized for decontamination after police found her during a raid on a methamphetamine lab.

Police tell the Kalamazoo Gazette and WWMT-TV the child repeatedly was exposed to hazardous fumes from the lab built by her father in their Portage home, about 50 miles south of Grand Rapids.

The home was raided just before 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Officials with the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team say the girl's 34-year-old father and another person were arrested and charged with operating and maintaining a meth lab. The home backs up to a high school football field.

The lab was dismantled.
