CENTREVILLE, Mich. (AP) — The St. Joseph County prosecutor has filed manslaughter and child-abuse charges against the father and adoptive mother of a teenager who died in a Centreville house fire while chained to her bed.

Douglas Fisher says he filed the charges Monday against Anthony and Marsha Springer in a court complaint.

Each is to be arraigned Dec. 15 before St. Joseph County District Judge William Welty. Each faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted of either charge.

Sixteen-year-old Calista Springer died in her second-floor bedroom in the February fire.

Telephone messages seeking comment were left with Sturgis lawyer Michael Mestelle and Kalamazoo attorney Victor Bland.

They represent the father and adoptive mother, respectively.
