CATARACT, Ind. (AP) — A Cloverdale Community Schools bus skidded off a rural road and struck a tree in western Indiana.

State Police Sgt. Curt Durnil said eight of the 17 children on board were taken to a hospital to be checked out after the Thursday morning crash. He said some of the children suffered cuts that might need stitches.

Durnil says the bus went sideways while going down an icy hill in northern Owen County near the community of Cataract, about 30 miles east of Terre Haute. The driver was able to keep the bus upright and it came to a stop on the road.

Cloverdale schools were operating on two-hour delay.

On Wednesday, several students were injured in rural Madison County when their bus flipped on its side in an accident on an icy road.
