Patterson considers run for Michigan governor

PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) — Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson is considering whether to run for Michigan governor.

Columnist Nolan Finley with The Detroit News reports the 70-year-old Republican plans an announcement Saturday that he's exploring a run in 2010. Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm can't run for a third term because of term limits.

Other possible GOP candidates include Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land, Attorney General Mike Cox, businessman David Brandon, U.S. Reps. Pete Hoekstra, Mike Rogers and Candice Miller and Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard.

Possible Democratic candidates include Lt. Gov. John Cherry, Flint Mayor Don Williamson, Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel, Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano and former Michigan State football coach and current university trustee George Perles.
