ROBINSON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Police say a dog described by its owner as an Australian cattle dog-pit bull mix ran aboard a school bus in western Michigan, nipping one student and scratching another.

Ottawa County sheriff's Lt. Lee Hoeksema says the dog followed its owner's children onto the bus Wednesday morning in Robinson Township. The dog lunged at a 9-year-old boy, leaving him with superficial bites and scratched a 9-year-old girl before the driver was able to chase the dog off the bus and continue on to school.

Hoeksema says the owner surrendered the dog to the Harbor Humane Society, which planned to hold it for 10 days before deciding whether to euthanize it.

Hoeksema says the families of the children who were attacked indicated they didn't want to press charges. But he says the department will forward its findings to the county prosecutor.
