CARMEL, Ind. (AP) — Police investigators have determined that a Carmel High School freshman found fatally injured on a sidewalk two months ago was hit by a school bus when he fell on some ice.

Carmel police say 15-year-old Ziang Ke was running to catch the bus when he fell. The driver said he felt a bump, but did not see anything in the mirrors. Ke was later found unconscious by other students.

Investigators at first believed that the teen was injured falling on the ice Jan. 7.

Police say the death was an accident and will not seek criminal charges against the bus driver, who is on a leave of absence.

The Hamilton County coroner said Ke had broken ribs, injuries to his head and liver. He died that day at a hospital.
