BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (AP) — Police called by a cab driver reporting an armed robbery attempt didn't have to go far to find the suspect, who was sitting in the back seat of the taxi.

The driver told officers the man threatened him with a knife and ordered him to drive to an ATM about 4 a.m. Saturday. The Battle Creek Enquirer says the cab driver went to the machine to withdraw money, but used his cell phone to call 911.

The Enquirer says the suspect was seated in the cab when police arrived. When he refused to get out, officers used pepper spray to subdue him.

The Enquirer and WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids say the man was held in the Calhoun County Jail on charges of armed robbery and resisting arrest.

The cabbie wasn't injured.
