CHICAGO (AP) — A 20-year-old Chicago man has died after he was shot to death, then held and dragged next to a car before he was released when the car struck another vehicle.

The Cook County medical examiner's office said Sunday that Daniel Damien suffered a gunshot wound to his side and fractured his leg "due to automobile dragging pedestrian." The shooting death happened early Saturday.

Police say Damien was standing when an occupant of a passing black car opened fire on him. Officials say one of the car occupants grabbed Damien as the car fled. Damien was dragged next to the black car until it struck a parked vehicle.

Damien was taken to a hospital in the suburb of Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are investigating. No suspects were in custody.
