CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago police have arrested a mother who was allegedly reaching for a bottle of whiskey when her SUV crashed, injuring her 9-year-old daughter.

Officer Michael Fitzpatrick says 48-year-old Cheryl Ranae Reynolds has been charged with reckless driving and aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, among other offenses. He says Reynolds was driving on the city's South Side Saturday evening when the bottle fell to the floor.

Fitzpatrick says she reached for it, causing the crash. He says Reynolds' daughter was sitting in the passenger's seat and hit her head on the windshield. Both were taken to a hospital with injuries.

Officials say testing shows Reynolds blood alcohol level was above the legal limit.
