EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) — Illinois State Police and officers from East St. Louis were jointly investigating the shooting death of a teenager who was gunned down while pumping gas.

East St. Louis Police Chief Lenzie Stewart says there were reports that 17-year-old Miguel Leggs of East St. Louis may have been involved in a fistfight with other youths shortly before he was shot early Sunday morning.

Illinois State Police Lt. Jim Morrisey says Leggs was outside of his car pumping gas when a silver Dodge Charger drove up to him and somebody in the vehicle fired numerous shots at him.

Several people from another car then grabbed Leggs, threw him inside and rushed him to Kenneth Hall Regional Hospital, where he later died.
