A 38-year-old father drowned Friday evening in Lake Miserva, according to Indiana Conservation Officer Jim Price.

John Gephart, 38, of Pleasant Lake, Ind., was swimming with his two children at a beach near the northwest corner of the lake, when he began to have difficulty in swimming for an unknown reason and went under the surface of the water at 6:30 p.m., the officer’s report stated.

Pleasant Lake Firefighter Jon Geraghty was the first responder on the scene. He dove in approximately 12 to 14 feet of water, found Gephart and brought him back to shore at approximately 6:57 pm.

Emergency medical personnel at the scene could not revive Gephart. He was pronounced dead at 7:22 pm.

Lake Miserva is in central Steuben County.
