CHICAGO (AP) — A 9-year-old girl has been shot and killed on Chicago's South Side as she cleaned her family's dogs.

Chicago police say Chastity Turner died at the University of Chicago Medical Center Wednesday after being shot in the neck just before 7 p.m.

Three other people, including Turner's 31-year-old father, were wounded in the shooting. Two people were in serious to critical condition with gunshot wounds to the back.

Witnesses say the girl and her father were washing two pit bull terriers when shots were fired from a green van.

Joseph Patterson, deputy chief of the Wentworth Area patrol division, said a van matching the description was found unoccupied a few blocks away.

He wouldn't say whether any weapons were recovered. No suspects were in custody late Wednesday.
