EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) — Two teenagers are each jailed on $1 million bond in southwestern Illinois on carjacking charges involving the death of the commandeered vehicle's driver.

Seventeen-year-olds Demond Steward Jr. of Washington Park and Antwyan Edwards of East St. Louis are charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking, failure to report an accident causing death and theft.

Investigators say 44-year-old Ronald McFarland of Fairmont City was driving in East St. Louis last week when the suspects approached in a stolen vehicle and took his pickup truck.

Authorities say McFarland jumped into the bed of the suspect's vehicle but was thrown from it and struck his head on the pavement. His body was found hours later wrapped in a mat.

It isn't immediately clear if Steward and Edwards have attorneys.
