Body found within feet of 2005 Mich. crash site

GREEN OAK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Police say a body found in a swamp may solve the mystery of what happened to a 300-pound man who disappeared more than four years ago after his car crashed a few feet away.

A state road crew found the remains Wednesday while working on a storm sewer in a deep ravine along U.S. 23 in Livingston County's Green Oak Township, 30 miles west-northwest of Detroit.

Township police Chief Robert Brookins tells the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus of Howell the crew called 911 after spotting "a leg, blue jeans and a foot."

Police suspect the body is that of 62-year-old John Gilboe of Hamburg Township. Police found his crashed vehicle on a snowy Jan. 31, 2005. They say Gilboe disappeared after declining a passing driver's offer to call 911.
