A Michigan woman leaving South Haven’s fireworks show was thrown from a motorcycle and injured following a collision along County Road 388 in Van Buren County.

The Sheriff’s Department says Ariel Anderson, 55, of Kalamazoo, was a passenger on the motorcycle operated by Richard Underwood, 53, also of Kalamazoo, when the accident occurred.

The two were leaving the annual fireworks display Sunday night when, according to the department’s press release, Underwood tried to pass a line of cars and collided with a 2003 Kia driven by Jessica Wall.

Wall, 24, of Portage, was turning into a private drive with her passenger at the time of the impact. Neither was reported injured.

Anderson “received numerous internal injuries,” the sheriff’s department said, and was transferred to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment.

Hospital staff would not release information about Anderson’s condition early Tuesday, citing the patient’s request for privacy.

Van Buren County authorities say the accident remains under investigation.
