MORENCI, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a neighbor rushed into a burning house in southeastern Michigan, rescuing a 1-year-old child from a fire that killed a man and his 12-year-old son.

Police say Bobby Black and a police officer went into the smoke-filled home in the Lenawee County city of Morenci about 3:45 a.m. Wednesday. WLEN-FM reported that Black spotted the baby and was able to get outside with the child, who was treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire killed 36-year-old Jeremy Allen Rohr and his son Zachariah. The children's mother and a 9-year-old boy were able to escape.

Police Chief Larry Weeks says Black's actions saved the baby's life.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
