ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. (AP) — A Cook County judge has set bond at $10,000 for an Arlington Heights man accused of killing his estranged girlfriend's 4-month-old kitten in a fit of rage.

At a hearing Monday, Arlington Heights Police Sgt. Michael Shabez said 25-year-old Kevin Colabuono was charged with one count of aggravated cruelty to an animal after admitting to slamming the kitten to the floor of his apartment.

Shabez said Colabuono had broken up with his live-in girlfriend, and the woman had left the apartment, leaving the kitten behind. He said Colabuono became enraged when the kitten urinated on a rug, so he allegedly made a whipping motion, dashing the pet's head to the floor.

Circuit Court Judge Kay Marie Hanlon ordered Colabuono not to have any contact with animals while awaiting trial.
