HOWELL, Mich. (AP) — The boyfriend of a Livingston County woman accused of biting her 3-year old daughter to teach her a lesson showed up drunk to his sentencing hearing in the case.

Circuit Court Judge Michael Hatty initially sentenced Christopher Norton to two months in the county jail on a third-degree child abuse charge.

But the judge withdrew Thursday's sentence when a sheriff's deputy informed him Norton failed a preliminary breath test. Hatty says Norton's blood-alcohol results were 0.085. The legal limit for driving is 0.08.

The judge ordered Norton to jail until he could be re-sentenced next Thursday.

Meanwhile, Norton's girlfriend, 27-year-old Jamie Barnes of Cohoctah Township, is to be sentenced Oct. 29. She also pleaded no contest to third-degree child abuse.
