2 charged with victimizing mourners at funerals

CHICAGO (AP) — Cook County Sheriff's police say two young men from Chicago's southern suburbs are accused of preying on mourners by looting unlocked cars during funeral services.

Steve Patterson, a spokesman for Sheriff Tom Dart, said Wednesday that police received reports of more than a dozen thefts at cemeteries and funeral homes last summer. Many of the thefts occurred at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Worth.

Patterson said 23-year-old Stacy Egan of Orland Park and 22-year-old Thomas Beach of Chicago Ridge were arrested last week.

They are charged with grabbing GPS units, purses, wallets, iPods and even loose change.

Egan is charged with four counts of felony burglary and with criminal trespass.

Beach is charged with one count of burglary and criminal trespass.
