INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A priest found a homeless man dead inside a downtown Indianapolis church from what police say was an apparent fall of about 20 feet from the choir loft.

The body of 51-year-old Gregory Fullmer was found Saturday morning in St. Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Michael O'Mara says Fullmer had been coming to the church for about a year and was a regular volunteer.

Fullmer appears to have used blankets to make a bed for himself on the choir loft's floor. He also had a bottle of vodka, and O'Mara says Fullmer likely became disoriented while drinking and fell.

O'Mara told parishioners at weekend Masses about Fullmer's death. The priest says it's a lesson that people never know when or where they'll be confronted by death.
