Woman pleads guilty in toddler's fatal beating

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Madison County authorities say An East Alton woman could face as long as 10 years in prison for leaving a dying child in the care of his attacker while she went to look for drugs.

The woman, 28-year-old Jeanine E. Lansdon, pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of endangering the life of a child in exchange for a prosecution agreement to drop charges of first-degree murder and obstructing justice.

Prosecutors say Lansdon left 2-year-old Maxwell Eyer in the care of his father, Johnny Garcia, who had already beaten the boy.

Maxwell died from injuries inflicted during a beating Dec. 27, 2007. Garcia pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced to 44 years in prison.

Maxwell's mother, Linsey Eyer still is facing murder and endangerment charges.
