INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Police say a traffic stop for a seat belt violation led to a high-speed chase that ended at Indianapolis International Airport, where the suspect jumped over a railing and fell nearly 90 feet.

Television stations WISH and WTHR say Richard Stedman was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries following the Thursday afternoon incident.

Police say officers attempted to stop the 44-year-old Stedman in Plainfield, but he fled on Interstate 70 and was pursued to the airport, where he drove onto the departures ramp and hit a retaining wall. They say Stedman left the car and jumped over the wall's railing onto a grassy area.

Police believe Stedman fled because he was wanted in a burglary case. He now faces additional charges of resisting arrest.

Airport officials say the incident didn't affect operations.
