DETROIT (AP) — Funeral services have begun for a 15-year-old Highland Park boy who police say pleaded for mercy before being fatally shot by his father.

Hundreds of people attended Jamar Pinkney Jr.'s funeral Monday morning at the Second Ebenezer Church in Detroit. Photos of the boy were projected onto two large screens above the pulpit.

Authorities said on Nov. 23 Pinkney was marched by his father to a vacant lot in the Detroit enclave of Highland Park and ordered at gunpoint to strip before being shot.

Thirty-seven-year-old Jamar Pinkney Sr. faces one count of first-degree murder.

Bishop Edgar L. Vann II asked those arriving at the funeral to pray for the family. Vann said he wants to remind the family there's room for hope and a need for faith in God despite the tragic events.
