EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) — A 25-year-old St. Louis man has been charged with sexual assault after fathering a child with a 13-year-old Illinois girl.

Tony Hickman is being held at the St. Clair County Jail on $200,000 bail. It was not immediately clear on Sunday whether he has an attorney.

East St. Louis police detective Gilda Johnson says the victim is a daughter of Hickman's friend. She says the teen was assaulted for several months beginning in February 2008. She was 13 at the time and had a child.

Hickman has denied having sex with the girl, but tests show he is the father of her child.

Johnson says the girl's mother didn't know she was being abused and didn't realize she was pregnant until just before she gave birth.
