HASTINGS, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say an ice fisherman pulled two friends out of a west Michigan lake after their all-terrain vehicle fell through the ice, then died of an apparent heart attack.

Barry County sheriff's officials say Wayne Seeley and his wife fell into Middle Lake near Hastings about 10:30 a.m. Monday. They say the fisherman, whose name hadn't been released as of Monday night, used an auger to reach the Middleville couple and pull them from the water.

The officials say the man suffered the apparent heart attack about 45 minutes later while on shore. He was pronounced dead at Pennock Hospital in Hastings.

Sgt. Julie Jones says rescuing the couple was the last act of a good Samaritan.

Hastings is 25 miles southeast of Grand Rapids.
