A teenager in Bedford County needs your help to pull off a big project.
You may remember our story a few months ago about Hunter Smith. He's the 16-year-old from Forest who's trying to build clean water wells in Guatemala.
Smith is organizing the "Agua Pura 5K," a 5K run and walk that will happen later this month.
Your entry fee of $20.00 for adults and $10.00 for children will go toward Smith's project. For $5,000 dollars, he can build a well that will supply 500 people with clean water every day.
"Water is just a requirement for us to live," Smith said. "When people don't have it, when they're drinking contaminated water, they're going to catch diseases and eventually die, just because they don't have clean water."
Smith's race is March 31 on the outdoor track at Liberty University. A 1K run will be held at 9:00 AM and the 5K race will happen at 9:30.
You can register at the Aid Station on Avalon Drive in Forest or by visiting the race website. Runners will get a free t-shirt and backpack, and children will receive a Guatemala bracelet. Smith says participants should register by March 19 to be guaranteed a t-shirt.
