Children at one Lynchburg museum are celebrating a beloved author.

Saturday is Dr. Seuss's birthday.  The occasion was part of a big event at Amazement Square.

Kids got to meet and take pictures with the "Cat in the Hat."  They also got to hear some of their favorite stories like "Green Eggs and Ham" and "Oh the Places You'll Go."

"This is an event to get people excited about reading, to do some hands-on activities about reading, and to celebrate Dr. Seuss and all he did for early literacy," said Meghan Vestal, director of school programs for Amazement Square.

Dr. Seuss' birthday events are the kickoff of new Saturday programs at Amazement Square.  Special things will be happening every weekend through the end of the year, including cooking classes and science seminars.
