January is National Mentoring Month and Goodwill is Recruiting Mentors for the GoodGuides® Youth Mentoring Program.

Goodwill Industries of the Valleys is one of 10 Goodwill agencies nationwide that offers the GoodGuides program for at-risk youth with disabilities or other disadvantages.

The purpose of this program is to help youth, ages 12-17, prepare for school completion, develop work skills, identify career paths, and transition to post-high school graduation including post-secondary training.

Once enrolled in the program, youth receive guidance and support through trusted adult mentors.

Mentors are asked to spend a minimum of four hours a month with the mentee.

By becoming part of the social network of adults and community members who care about the youth, the mentor can help youth develop and reach positive academic, career, and personal goals.

Being a mentor is a rewarding way to give back to the community and there is always a need for mentors.

For more information on how to become a mentor call Catherine Long at (540) 581-0620 x241.
