The government is attributing this death to the exceptionally cold winter, however, and not to any of the swirling theories explaining other recent instances of animal deaths.
The largest group deaths occurred in the northern mountainous region of Cao Bang, where 2,260 animals died, the Thanh Nien News reported.
With flocks of birds falling from the sky in Arkansas, Louisiana and Italy; fish floating to the surface by the thousand in Brazil and Maryland and cows dying by the hundreds in Wisconsin, conspiracy theories have been plentiful. Fireworks, storms, extraterrestrial activity and God's wrath have been popular theories.
In some cases, there have been answers. KTIV reported that the USDA admitted to poisoning roughly 5,000 birds in South Dakota who were eating and defecating in the food at a nearby feedlot.
Officials still aren't too alarmed about the unexplained deaths, however, because such instances are fairly well-documented, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
