EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Authorities in Evansville say a man and a woman were killed when the scooter they were riding went out of control on a snowy street and they were hit by a pickup truck.
Police Sgt. Jason Cullum says the truck was traveling behind the scooter when it went down in the snow Wednesday on a main street of the city's southeast side. He tells the Evansville Courier & Press and WFIE-TV that the truck driver couldn't stop in time to avoid hitting the two riders.
Authorities say 26-year-old Heather Johnson and 42-year-old Joel Elliott were taken to a hospital with serious injuries but later died. The two lived at an address just a couple blocks from the crash scene.
No one in the truck was injured.
