PLAINFIELD, Ind. (AP) — The traffic caught up in the massive Interstate 70 pileup included a vehicle transporting three elephants.

Indiana State Police Capt. Dave Bursten says the elephants were under control of their trainer at all times during the pileup Thursday.

However, he says the pachyderms had to be briefly off-loaded from the vehicle while it was righted on the highway, then reloaded for the resumption of their journey.

Bursten says he has no other information on the elephants

The pileup involved more than 30 vehicles about 20 miles west of Indianapolis. At least 10 people were injured.
