MISHAWAKA – According to police, a vehicle was hit by a train and then caught on fire in Mishawaka late Saturday night.
Officers say they were dispatched to the Norfolk Southern Railroad Crossing off of Main Street at 11:53 p.m.
An east bound train pushed the vehicle from Main Street to Union Street under pass, police say, where the vehicle then caught on fire. It was unoccupied when it was hit by the train. The Hazmat team was called to the scene for a magnesium leak.
The owner of the car is expected to meet with police either Tuesday or Wednesday.
