ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Carl Levin says the Ann Arbor Transportation Authority is getting $2.1 million in federal aid toward the costs of using new hybrid-electric buses.

The Michigan Democrat said Thursday that the grant comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Clean Fuels Program. It's designed to help local communities adopt clean-energy technologies to improve energy efficiency and improve air quality.

Levin says Michigan knows the value of promoting clean-energy technologies for environmental and economic development reasons.
