SOUTH BEND – An agreement to save parts of the historic Avon Theater in South Bend hits another snag.
South Bend's Historic Preservation Commission and the St. Joseph County Public Library had agreed on a memorandum of understanding.
That would allow the commission to keep the facade, but the building itself would be demolished.
Now, the Commission has voted against the agreement.
The library owns the dilapidated theater and wants to knock it down to make room for a parking lot.
