State appointed Emergency Financial Manager Joseph Harris is considering a handful of options to help pay the city's bills. One is closing the police department.

Harris says there's no money to replace a millage that voters chose not to renew earlier this month...and the city can't afford to operate its own police operations.

In a news release Harris writes after talking with Michigan's treasurer, he decided to hold public hearings to help determine if the millage should be replaced with a public safety assessment...which would allow Benton Harbor to continue funding public safety.

Harris says the public hearings will be held over the next few weeks.
