BERRIEN COUNTY – A judge Monday sentenced a Benton Harbor man to 90 days in jail for driving his car into the path of a train, seriously injuring his daughter.

Police say Anthony Bearty did not have a valid driver's license when he ignored train signals and drove over the tracks on Kerlikowski Road near Coloma in November.

His 4-year old daughter Mikahlah was in the car and suffered a serious broken leg.

Bearty pleaded no contest to the charge.

The judge Monday sentenced Bearty to the jail time, 3 years probation, 50 hours of community service and ordered him to pay over $2,000 in fines and court costs.
