ELKHART COUNTY – Hundreds of people gathered to pay tribute to our nation's fallen and wounded warriors, and they did it Saturday night by firing up their motorcycles and riding through Elkhart County.
It was all part of the Freedom Ride and Bike Night Rally.
Bikes, trikes, roadsters and rockets.
Hundreds of motorcycles lined Main Street in downtown Elkhart for the return of Bike Night, but the focus wasn't on the Harleys or the Hondas. It was on the heroes.
Joyce Adcock's son, Army Sergeant Marvin Trost, died in 2004 in Iraq. He and his family were among several fallen soldiers and their families honored during a memorial service.
“He went into the Army right out of high school, said Adcock. “He was 17. He was killed when he was 28. We truly have a lot of patriotic people. I’ve had more people come up to me (Saturday) and thank me. It was nice.”
The event kicked off with nearly 800 riders on a 70-mile ride through Elkhart County and ended with food, fun and music at the Elkhart Civic Plaza.
The whole event is benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project in Elkhart County, but its goal is to make sure all who put their lives on the line for us are honored everyday.
“As a mom, I don’t want my son forgotten at all,” said Adcock. “And I think I can speak for everybody. So this is really great.”
