BENTON HARBOR, Mich. – Two Benton Harbor murder suspects are scheduled to make their first court appearances on Tuesday.
28-year-old Jovan Davis of Benton Harbor and his 19-year-old sister Ashley Davis of Grand Forks, North Dakota are accused of killing 25-year-old Gary Alilovich Friday night.
35-year-old Heather Poe of Benton Harbor was rushed to Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph with multiple gunshot wounds, like Alilovich, and was in critical condition. WSBT has learned that Poe has been upgraded to stable.
Police have not yet been able to interview Poe about the shooting, the first murder in Benton Harbor since May 2012.
Jovan is in the Berrien County Jail on charges of open murder, assault with intent to murder, felony firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.
Ashley is charged with open murder, felony firearm and assault.
Police say Jovan is the ex-boyfriend of Poe, and the two got into an argument Friday night just before midnight when he started hitting her. Police say Alilovich stepped in to help Poe, and that’s when Jovan pulled out a gun and started firing.
Police say Alilovich was a “tap out” fighter in the Niles area and had at least two children with a son on the way.
