INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A 4-year-old Buchanan, Michigan girl badly hurt when she was hit by a pickup truck at the Indiana State Fairgrounds underwent a followup surgery Monday and is now recovering in fair condition, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Michael Gembala said the surgery his daughter Madalynn underwent Monday was another arm surgery now that she's out of the intensive care unit at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.

Madalynn suffered a crushed pelvis, two broken arms and internal injuries after police say she broke free from her mother Wednesday and ran into the truck's path on a fairgrounds access road.

Michael Gembala tells The Indianapolis Star (http://indy.st/RvMDWV ) that Madalynn's recovery could take a year and that she'll need physical therapy to relearn how to walk. The girl's family worked at the fair's midway.
