ELKHART – Police say they have arrested two juveniles on murder charges in a home invasion and burglary that resulted in a suspect's death on Elkhart's south side Wednesday afternoon.

Two people were shot, one of them killed -- we learned that man is 21-year-old Danzele Johnson. According to his Facebook page, he lives in Goshen.

Officers were called to 1919 Frances Ave. around 2:30 p.m. According to police, the homeowner shot two people after they forced their way into the home.

Lt. Laura Koch of the Elkhart Police Department says Johnson died at the scene. An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday morning.

The other person shot -- a juvenile -- was taken to Elkhart General Hospital where he was treated and then taken into police custody.

The homeowner told police two other suspects ran off. Officers caught one of them a block away.

In all, police say two 16-year-old juveniles were arrested for murder.

A police spokesperson told WSBT there are certain crimes that if someone dies during the commission of those crimes, those involved in the commission of said crime can be charged with murder.

The homeowner has not been arrested, and it appears he may have shot the two in self-defense. But the investigation is ongoing.

Roosevelt Elementary School and Pierre Moran Middle School were under lockdown during the police chase.
